Hey, hi! Glad you
stopped by ;-)
The Battle of The Bands (BOTB) is your
basic Which-do-you-like-best contest where the one that gets the most votes
wins. All you have to do is show up (the 1st and/or 15th
of every month) give a listen and cast your vote in the comment section. Next, hop on over to
see what battles other participants (links located top right column of this
page) have posted for us to vote on! Votes will
be tallied and the winner revealed on or about 8 days later.
I'm offering smiles today!
Which is more your (smile) style? Let me know in the comments!
Happy October to you, Diedre! Where is this year going anyhow? WOW, it's just zipping by! I like both songs a lot. Nat King Cole has a silky voice and I love his Smile song but this morning, it is Uncle Kracker's song that speaks to me. I'm tossing my vote in for contender #1!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll decide to swing by to cast a ballot in my BOTB when you get a chance. Have a bandtastic day!
Hi Cathy!
DeleteAs has become my norm, I'm torturing myself again with the songs (and artists) I've chosen ;-) I'll have to flip a coin again... You bet I'll be by to check out your battle - wouldn't miss it! A first vote for Uncle Kracker, thank you!
I'm totally in on Nat King Cole. It's just too classic.
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal! Both songs have been on my mind lately, so naturally I chose to use them both ;-) A vote for Nat King Cole, thank you!
DeleteDefinitely Nat King Cole. What a beautiful voice...
ReplyDeleteI sure can't disagree, John. Thanks for coming by with a vote for Nat King Cole!
DeleteHappy October, diedre! Where does the time go?! For this battle, I choose the dulcet tones of Nat King Cole. ☺
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie! Seems like it was early summer only a minute ago ;-) Thanks for coming by with a vote (for Nat King Cole) my dear.
DeleteHard to beat a classic like Nat's version of "Smile" so I've got to vote for King Cole.
ReplyDeleteLee
Hi Lee! I hope the weather is more comfortable for you now. We've finally dipped below the 100s ;-) Thank you much for your vote for Nat's unbeatable classic. That song has been making me smile since childhood.
DeleteHi, Hello, and Howdy, dIEDRE ~
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased as spiked punch to see you're still BOTBing. I think you should continue BOTBing until you lose the boogie beat (which methinx thou shalt never do).
OK, hang onto your Stetson, Sister, because here comes the wild truth...
My Pa's favorite male vocalist was Nat King Cole. He sometimes joshingly referred to himself as "Charlie King", and I've wondered if he borrowed the King name from Nat.
In 1996, my Pa was in the hospital when I got a call that he had taken a bad turn for the worse and that I should get to the hospital ASAP. I left work immediately and remember being extremely stressed out as I drove across the city of Phoenix toward the hospital. Suddenly, the song 'SMILE' by Nat King Cole played on the radio; I think that may have been the first time I ever heard it. I instinctively knew -- not thought, but *knew* -- it was a deliberate message being sent to me. That song helped... some.
Pa survived that day, and maybe the next one also. But then the family decided it was time to unplug all of the machines that were artificially keeping him alive (which HE would have absolutely insisted upon!)
A number of times since my Pa went "Home", he has contacted me from the other side; most often by using Nat King Cole songs. (I have some jaw-dropping true stories!)
Therefore, I am voting for Nat King Cole's 'SMILE'. I would vote for Nat even if I didn't really like his song better than the Uncle Kracker song (which I do).
Two of my all-time favorite "creative endeavors" that I've ever engaged in are playlists I constructed at YouTube. These videos / songs are essentially my autobiography, and illustrate people, places and things I have loved in my life. It was an *agonizing*, often *frustrating*, full two-year process, trying to capture everyone / everything and narrowing down the videos into playlists that could be fully watched in a couple of days.

It probably goes without saying that NKC's song 'SMILE' made it into the playlists - Part Twoo. I'm telling you this primarily because I want to thank you for introducing me to 'DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS' by Chris Rea, which also made it into my Part Twoo playlist. I *love* that song & the video you used in previous BOTBs. You done goot, dIEDRE. Thanks!!

Aw, such a poignant memory of your Pa. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your playlists. I think of them (playlists) as memory trees kept vibrant by the songs we chose. You've some lovely Cardinals in your tree!
DeleteThe inimitable Nat King Cole is on a roll here, thanks for chiming in with yet another vote ;-)
It's Nat King Cole all the way for me. Great song!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya, Birgit! Thanks for chiming in for Nat!
DeleteMy vote is for Uncle Kracker! I immediately felt happy and reminiscent of all the things that are good in my life!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it, Anon! After all, smiles is what this battle is all about this time ;-) I could practically hear you smiling in your words. And Uncle Kracker gets a nod - Thanks so much!
DeleteLet's see...2 plus me is 3 (Not that I don't love Nat) for Uncle Kracker, leaving 6 with Nat King Cole for the win! Thanks for playing along with me, everyone!
ReplyDeleteGoot juan, dIEDRE!
ReplyDeleteAnd, hey, I'm on the winning side this time. That doesn't seem to happen very often. (Had I thought of it earlier, I would have also submitted a vote for Nat on behalf of my Pa, as it's a more than safe assumption that's where his own vote would have landed.)

I'd have been surprised if Nat hadn't have won.
ReplyDeleteI've got a results post up now. I actually did a new post.
