Have a safe and Happy 4th of July! If you've got special festivities planned, don't forget to include (30 of your best) friends ;-)
Which of the following songs reminds you of most of good times with friends; past, present, or planned?
The Rembrandts
Bruno Mars
"Smell the sea, feel the sky, let your soul and spirit fly." ` Van Morrison
The Rembrandts "I'll Be There For You" so like friendship. The tempo is upbeat and happy and with the sentiments of I'll be there for you, then I can't help casting my vote for this song! Bruno Mars' song is a good one and I really liked it when it came out but putting up against The Rembrandts just doesn't quite stack up. Nice job and a fun battle, Diedre!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy! I'll never be able to hear the song by the Rembrandts and not think of 'Central Perk' and six exceptional friends ;-) Bruno gets a bit more airplay here than many folks imagine. A vote for the Rembrandts, thank you!
DeleteHappy 4th of July, diedre! 🎉 These are both happy tunes celebrating friendship. The Rembrandts' "Friends" theme is familiar, but I actually preferred Bruno Mars. It's new to me, and therefore more interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie! Celebrations may be more subdued here in the mountains, but it sure is cooler than Tucson ;-)
DeleteA vote for Bruno Mars - thank you! Have a wonderful summer.
hOWDY dIEDRE ~
ReplyDeleteBoth of these songs were new to me. ("Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!", to quote Gomer Pyle.)
The Bruno Mars song wasn't bad, but I genuinely liked The Rembrandts' song upon first listen (which is a fairly rare thing for me).
I don't know anything at all about The Rembrandts -- not even what years they were most popular (or is that NOW?) -- but their sound reminded me of some other artists. Like, maybe a combination of Nick Lowe & earlier Beatles stuffs? Well... something along those lines.
A surprisingly enthusiastic vote for THE CLASSIC PAINTERS!

Howdy Stephen!
DeleteReally? You never heard the theme from a sitcom called Friends? It was likely the biggest hit ever for the little Pop Rock band from Los Angeles. Glad you liked it and thanks for your vote for the Rembrandts!
No, believe it or not, I've never seen an episode of 'Friends'. And haven't watched TV for decades. If I turn on the TV, it's only because I also just turned on the DVD player.

I like Bruno Mars okay, but this one is not particularly my favorite style of music. "I'll Be There For You" is so familiar to me that it's like seeing an old friend. It's a friendly tune to my ears and that's what I'm voting for.
ReplyDeleteLee
Hi Lee!
DeleteIt is a friendly tune:-) Thank you for your vote.
VOTE = BRUNO MARS
ReplyDeleteIn some ways, Count On Me is like a children's song - like it could have been done by The Wiggles. But I really like its simplicity and heart. Unfortunately, although The Rembrandts song is objectively a good song, and if it was the first time I was hearing it, I might have voted for it. But, and I know this nearly blasphemous... I was never a fan of Friends. I tried, but for me it was too cornball. The Rembrandts song just reminds me of a sitcom I did not enjoy. >>> sigh <<<
Hi Ed!
DeleteBlasphemous - ha! I think the sitcom had probably a 50/50 mix of yays and nays;-) The theme song always reminded me of a song I couldn't quite call up to the surface of memory. I get what you mean about "Count on me", I'm real glad you voted - thanks!
I know Friends very well and was even overplayed so I'm choosing Bruno Mars. I love the words which i could understand. He gets my vote
ReplyDeleteAnd Bruno hold his own! Thank you Birgit!
DeleteHi, everybody! Have you had a good month, so far? Here it is the 8th already and it's time to tally up the votes. Since it's too hot to flag down any more votes - and my contenders are tied for the win...I'll have to flip a coin ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'll be right back!
And tails it is; giving The Rembrandts a fourth vote for the final, leaving Bruno at a countable three ;-) Thanks everyone!
DeleteNice close Battle, dIEDRE!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious... did you flip a coin to break the tie, rather than breaking the tie with a vote of your own? Doing the math (always a major challenge for me), that's what seems to be the case. Or am I missing something somewheres?
~ D-FensDogG
Why, yes. Yes, I did ;-)
