BOTB Sept 2025 Moondance

Hey, hi! Glad you stopped by ;-)

I hope you’re enjoying the last official weekend of summer!

The Battle of the Bands (BOTB) is your basic Which do you like best? " contest, where the one that gets the most votes wins. All you have to do is show up (the 1st and/or 15th of every month) give a listen and cast your vote for the band or song of your choice in the comment section. Next, hop on over to see what battles other participants (links located top right column of this page) have posted for us to vote on! Votes will be tallied and the winner revealed on or about 8 days later.

When I mentioned how quiet we get around here during mid-summer vacations, I had no idea I’d take the proverbial cake for the quietest – ha! Yay, me. I do hope everyone made the most of the season most often set aside for fun. I won’t miss the heat, but I have enjoyed and am now looking forward to Autumn. How about you?

For this autumn Battle of the Bands, I present to you a couple of covers of a song Van Morrison brought to life by adding lyrics to a jazzy saxophone solo.

There you have it, folks! Which do you like best? Please cast your vote in the comment section below, and don’t miss the other battles listed in the sidebar.

See ya back here on or about the 8th with battle results and a special announcement regarding what’s next for Landmark Sounds.

  1. Diedre,

I've heard the lyrical version before and I absolutely love it. In fact it might have been Buble's rendition to first cross my ears. Anabel did a nice job but her's lacks that airy fun vibe of Michael's. Please give my vote to MICHAEL BULBE!

Like you, I will miss the lazy long sun soaked days of summer but not the heat in the least and am ready for autumn's arrival. I changed my mind and published a battle today. My eyes are doing well enough to handle it and cast my votes in everyone who has a BOTB before my surgery on Wednesday. Please hope by when you can to play along! xo

    1. Hi, Cathy!
I haven't heard the "original" original ;-) But, according to what Morrison said in an interview, he played it on sax non-stop till one day words came to him. Way to love a song, huh? Anyhow, the thing about his most popular version is that I can't hear it once without wanting to hear it again. And again.
Thanks for chiming in, my friend. A vote for Michael it is! And, I'm glad your eyes are doing well ;-)

  2. The original is a hard one to beat. Ok, trying to get Van Morrison out of my head, I'm going with Michael Buble. He is professional and knows his audience. The young gal still needs to work on her style and way with the song. M8chael gets my vote

    1. Hi Birgit!
That's for sure! I'd planned to serve up an entirely different song until I heard Van Morrison on my way to the mountains a few days ago and quickly changed my mind ;-) I appreciate a second vote for Michael - thank you, Ma'am!

  4. dIEDRE ~

I've always dug this tune (I was a huge Van Morrison fan back in "the day"), and I also really dig this Michael Buble rendition. I don't normally go for these postmodern "artists", but in a BOTB galaxy far, far away, a BOTBer used Buble's version of 'Stuck In The Middle With You' in a Battle, and I liked it so much that I bought his 2-CD set 'Call Me Irresponsible'.

Anabel's rendition wasn't bad, but it was too minimalist for my taste. And she's probably not going to make a real top-notch recording of this song until she has memorized the lyrics and no longer needs to read them while singing them.

    1. Howdy Stephen T.!
I always have a tough time being objective when I really like the original rendition of a song.
Now I'm curious about the 2-CD set.;-) Another vote for Michael!
      Thanks for chiming in!

  5. It's hard to erase the memory of Van Morrison here, but I'm a huge BublĂ© fan and he can do no wrong. ☺ Anabel was a bit too understated, but she has a lovely voice. Happy September, diedre!

  6. VOTE = ANABEL ENGLUND

MB's version is a smooth, jazzy take; which is okay. But for me, a bit too smooth. I like Anabel's stripped down instrumentation and her 'rougher' vocals. ~Ed.
