Hey, hi! Glad you stopped

The Battle of The Bands (BOTB) is your
basic Which-do-you-like-best contest where the one that gets the most votes
wins. All you have to do is show up (the 1st and/or 15th
of every month) give a listen and cast your vote in the comment section. Next, hop on over to
see what battles other participants (links located top right column of this
page) have posted for us to vote on! Votes will
be tallied and the winner revealed on or about 8 days later.
This was the last (beautiful) song Warren Zevon wrote before lung cancer ended his life in 2003. Thanks, Stephen T. for introducing me to it. This is a good (theme) song for my first ever attempt at a November Novel Sprint ;-) wish me luck?
I think both contenders do a right fine job with this, but let me know what you think in the comment section.
In the words of Warren Zevon; "Enjoy every sandwich."

You doing that NANO thing? Good luck with that. I finished a couple of them some years back.
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer Willie Nelson's version. It seemed more genuine and more convincing. Eddie had too much angst and baloney drama in his voice that reminded me of Springsteen.
Be sure to visit my Battle which is now up.

Hi Lee! Yeah, crazy isn't it? The particular story has been on my desk for quite some time. No time like present to finally finish. I remember you doing the contests back in the day. I was impressed ;-)
DeleteHa! "baloney drama" I appreciate your thoughts and your vote! One for Willie! Thank you ;-)

ReplyDeleteThis was a fitting melancholy sign-off for Warren. I always enjoyed Warren's stuffs because he seemed a bit like me, in that we both possessed a twisted sense of dark humor and a deep, melancholic spot somewhere in the psyche. I consider Zevon's "There's a sadness in the heart of things" to be one of the all-time greatest lyric lines.
In this Battle, I've gotta side with ol' Willie. He really knew how to put across a ballad. And Eddie Vedder's voice I have never liked.
Cool Battle concept, my friend, which somehow seems especially apropos during the falling-leaves season of Fall.

Howdy Stephen T.!
DeleteI hadn't even thought about fall weather, but you're right. It fits. Warren had a remarkable, if jarring, way with words at times. Not such a bad thing, I'd say.
Another vote for Willie - thanks, my friend!
Eddie couldn't match Willie in this match. His version lacked the ability to connect with the lyrics properly or at least in my opinion. My vote goes hands down to Willie Nelson. Going into this battle, I thought for sure it wouldn't go like this and yet it did. I actually enjoyed Willie's rendition quite a bit and it really pulled at my heart. Great battle, my dear!
ReplyDeleteIm giving this to Willie Nelson who just puts do much emotion into the song without much emoting. He's my pick
