BOTB April 15, 2024 - Every kinda People

Hey, hi! Glad you stopped by ;-)

The Battle of The Bands (BOTB) is your basic Which-do-you-like-best contest where the one that gets the most votes wins. All you have to do is show up (the 1st and/or 15th of every month) give a listen and cast your vote in the comment section. Votes will be tallied and the winner revealed on or about 8 days later.

After noting quite a few members of BOTB have posted for a second time this month, and since I kinda had a post in mind…How’s your day going?

My “For The Birds” theme is still on the line as I focus instead on a song I heard last year during an AMC critically acclaimed Crime/Drama series episode. After spending literally months trying to find the song's origin, I finally tracked it down to dapper-dresser Robert Palmer, who first released the song (written by Andy Fraser) in March 1978.

Next: The song was so popular that the first of many covers (Joe Cocker gave it a try but couldn't hold a candle) was recorded within a decade. Here’s one by Mint Juleps:

There you have it, folks! Which do you like best? And how come? Let me know in the comment section below. Oh! And, before you go, hop around and see the rest of today’s battles (participating sites are located in the top right sidebar of this page)

BOTB April 2024 - Results for Foolish

Hello, Everyone!

Have you seen any of those rockets Space X has been sending off from California, lately? Did I think of “Major Tom” when the first one raced over my house? Oh, yeah.

Did you watch or experience the Lunar Eclipse yesterday? How many times did you hear “Total Eclipse of The Heart”?

Off the top of your head, what 1982 Michael Jackson song features an unlikely collaboration with Edward Van Halen?

As for the results of my April 1st battle, I have to admit I almost had to request a consultation about what to do with the outcome – until I realized my own vote might change things ;-). Interesting is the best description I can come up with, but I’ll take it!  As Always, I sure do appreciate the participation of each and every one of you who stopped by to vote.

It being April and all, the theme was about being or feeling or acting - Foolish.   Here’s how it went:

               Foolish Heart                Steve Perry/Journey      Votes = 3 + 1 (me)

               Foolish                            Johnny Mathis             Votes =2

Ship Of Fools                    Robert Plant                 Votes = 3

I sure hope everyone had a pleasant Easter ;-) Saturday’s gale-force winds delivered some bone-chilling rain for Sunday. But I wasn't too affected since I haven’t hosted – or even attended an Easter Egg Hunt in several years. However, I do miss those Spoon Races and Marshmallow Wars…How was your day?

As for today’s Battle of the Bands, the Birds are temporarily grounded. Instead, I’m giving a nod to all our favorite fools out there. Hang on to your hearts, folks!

First up: The last single, Foolish Heart from Steve Perry’s debut solo album Street Talk did almost as well as the first single “Oh Sherrie” from the same album, which was one of the biggest hits of 1984

Next: A song that Johnny Mathis himself admits personifies his character, a fun fact verified by the songwriters who also claim the man’s sensitivity, which extends to extreme generosity to those less fortunate, at times bears guidance.

And: Because I couldn’t resist sharing this one by Robert Plant
